the weather today in rhode island is damp, gray, and rainy.  the kind of day that kicks my love of the past into high gear. i can't completely concentrate on my "work work" as i gaze out of the window and dream of what i categorize as a time of "faded grandeur."  living in a cottage out on the moor or some such place. (i love the word "moor" - it's just not used today) with fires crackling in the numerous stone fireplaces, snuggled on my very worn yet chic velvet edwardian couch  passed down through countless generations, in the background are sounds of the tick tock of the ancient grandfather clock and the snoring of my 4 dogs to accompany the rain falling, while writing some fabulous period-piece ala miss bronte, taking a break now and then to look out at my lush cottage gardens that are home to the faeries and gnomes...sigh.... of yes, i could really go on and on in elaborate detail....

and then the phone rings at my desk, and my outlook emails start jumping out at me, and  oh, yes, of course, least i forget, i've been "skyped" - our company's new toy to keep our global offices more connected giving everyone the ability to video conference you at any moment....because at an ad agency it's all and i mean all about communication because you absolutely have to be several steps ahead of everyone. but this "split" personality of mine does make me wonder- why are we (those of similiar mindset to myself) so fascinated with the past- and i'm referring to the "once upon a time" past, as we (the collective) speed ahead in our lives to work faster, earn more money, run over everything that gets in our path- environmentally, physically, globally, etc.?  i wonder if enough will become enough for everyone in the future?  i know i'm there.
