whispery paintings

05.may.08

I love heroines..not the hollywood glam perfection heroine, but the dark horse so to speak...so i was a bit speechless and overjoyed to discover Jeanie Tomanek's paintings, whose heroine is a bald woman who embodies various powerful feminine figures throughout mythological history.  I think her artist's statement speaks volumes, "I paint to explore the significance of ideas, memories, events, feelings, dreams and images that seem to demand my closer attention. Some of the themes I investigate come first in poems I write. Literature, folktales and myths often inspire my exploration of the feminine archetype. My figures often bear the scars and imperfections, that, to me, characterize the struggle to become."
Enjoy this week...be inspired and create one little tiny beautiful thing for yourself this week...
