haitian steel drum art

23.july.09

In Haiti a growing crafts community is creating amazing metal wall sculptures from flattened drums which were once used to transport oil or other products. After removing the ends these drums are flattened and then carved by hand into exotic works of art. Using only hammers, chisels and other simple tools, the artists carve elaborate, decorative designs out of the steel. Haitian drum art is world renowned and spreading in popularity.

rimi yang

22.july.09

korean artist rimi yang compositions are borne from a method of automatic painting in which she allows her feelings to take hold of her in the course of execution. Her emotional work explores the human psyche and its relation in connecting to polar opposites. Yang's paintings are both dramatic yet whimsical showing both Eastern and Western influences.

jaw dropping awe

gorgeous feather installations by artist, Kate MccGwire...if you've ever worked with feathers you know how tedious it is, therefore i was amazed by these feather sculptures.  i wonder what would happen if she sneezes during the process? enjoy.  she has also used 5,000 chicken bones for another installation.  genius. check her out.
