a good day indeed
01.may.2007
a ray of light shined through today. the owner of the dealer shoppe i sell my liveable elegance furnishings called to tell me that she had a woman come in and buy all my furniture!! i am so excited, as i was a little nervous, being i hadn't sold anything in a month. it's so exciting to think of items i worked on are appealing to others and on their way to a new life. i'm especially excited, because in 6 days i'm going to the Brimfield Antiques Show, in Brimfield Mass- THE largest antique fair on the entire east coast- 5,000 dealers!! I need to remain calm and stick to my plan... but still! I will take photos for all to share in the excitement with me. I really want to stay the course with my liveable elegance line. today was a good day. i'm motivated to work on my paper packets tonight! merci!

isn't this picture lovely? i found it in a book of antique fashion plates. i love the colors- they remind me of cupcakes and the delicateness of the ladies is so beautiful. maybe i'll include it in one of my paper packets....
spring cleaning
30.april.2007
I recently watched "The Secret" which all boils down to the law of attraction and am really trying to take the positive messages I took from it (sans the cheesy, overdone visuals) and put that into action in my own life. so it's a bit discouraging that in the past week i had a car accident and totaled my car. that my insurance company seems to think i missed a payment and am currently uninsured as they complete their investigation. that i need my car to bring furniture and brocante purchases to my dealer space as well as deliver me to my day job. that our creative director at my day job quit. that my uncle died quite suddenly of a massive heart attack. but i'm not going to dwell - at all- on any of it. i'm only thinking of the positive i want to attract into my life. so... because of my series of unfortunate events, i'm behind on quite a few things. but that's all going to change, because i'm willing it to be- along with a fair amount of work to make those changes happen in my life. so i'm cleaning house- spiritually and physically, getting rid of the "junk" that's built up in my life. sweeping out the negative to make room for the positive.
paquets de papier
24.april.2007
I have such a vast treasure chest filled with vintage, antique and victorian -ish scraps, papers, ephemera and other lovely things, that I think I'm going to create a series of "paquets de papier" or paper bundles for purchase. Each bundle will be unique and may include stamps, sheet music, postcards, ads, pages from old books, pages from illustrated magazines, bits of vintage fabric, photos and more from the 1800's through the mid 1900's. I'm going to go through my collections this evening, enjoy some tea and an old movie and put something delicious together.
pay it forward... little morsels of magic

E.J. Taylor is one of the greatest artists in doll making. Taylor's dolls, a few elves he created for the famous Tiffany window in NYC, are so remarkably human and show such profound emotions. his dolls are filled with artistry and soul and look as though they might strike up a conversation with you at any minute- or know your inner thoughts. magic. i'm so mesmerized by his work, there's such an unsettling beauty that is so striking and emotional. poetic beauty for a gray day.

fairytale dreams
13.april.07

i'd like to start my own linen line... in conjunction with opening the store... i was on a plane a few months ago when the idea popped into my head... and i thought "fairytales"- i want to create a collection of bed linens based on fairytales... but actually create stories around these collections. i.e., off the top of my head, a bedding collection that is made from a piece of cinderella's ballgown that tore when she fell... i'm thinking irridescent taffetas maybe with a layered tulle bedskirt...something along those lines... i've always loved fairy tales ( think non disney), and i believe they can be translated into a beautiful bedding collection.... doesn't everyone want a fairytale bedroom and don't we all need a little magic in our lives. who could resist a collection made from a piece of cinderella's gown, or from a feather that fell from the snow queen's cape, a piece of velvet from the red shoes, the bedding from sleeping beauty, you get my point. beautiful, aged fabrics transported off the vellum pages into your bedroom.... what do you think? now i need a seamstress.
